The City of Ota provides an After-School Learning Support Program, Houkago Gakushu Shien, to help children with non-Japanese speaking backgrounds to assist their language needs, and progression in Japanese language proficiency and academic achievement in elementary and junior high school. This helps them to enrich their learning at schools, further expand their future possibilities.
In the Program; students can receive two kinds of leaning supports, (1) Study Support (SS) and (2) Japanese Language Support (JLS). In SS, instructors supervise students who study using textbooks, workbooks or other resources and help them when they need, and in JLS, students are tutored to improve their language skills necessary for communication in school and daily life, as well as for learning school subjects.
